Yas Mall Guide: What’s Actually Worth Your Time (and Where to Hide From the Heat)

Yas Mall is Abu Dhabi’s largest mall, around 235,000 m², more than 370 shops and over 60 places to eat, open from 10am on Yas Island. In summer its real value isn’t shopping: an indoor walkway connects it directly to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, so a theme park, a meal and a film can happen back-to-back without going outside.

That walkway is the whole point, and almost nobody plans around it.

Most guides will tell you Yas Mall has 370 shops. True, and not very useful in August. What matters when it’s 42°C is that the mall, the theme park, the cinema and a hypermarket all sit under one roof, so an afternoon that would otherwise be four trips in and out of the heat becomes one loop.

The basics

Doors open at 10am and the place runs late, with restaurants and cafés staying open after the shops close, so an after-dinner wander in the cool is genuinely pleasant. Hours shift around public holidays and big event weekends, so check before a special trip.

Parking is free and covered, which matters more in summer than it sounds: air-conditioned car straight into an air-conditioned mall, no sun in between. From the Water’s Edge side of Yas Island it’s about five minutes by car.

Is it worth a visit, honestly?

For shopping alone, it’s a good regional mall. Zara, H&M, the Apple Store, House of Fraser, some higher-end names. If you’ve already done Dubai Mall, nothing here will surprise you, and we’d rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

Where it genuinely earns an afternoon is as a family base in the heat. The Ferrari World connection is the reason, and it’s the one thing you can’t get at any other mall in the emirate.

Where to eat

Don’t wander until someone melts down. Pick before you park.

For a sit-down meal, AVLU does Greek and Turkish around an open courtyard-style room, and Mezzaluna is a dependable Italian trattoria with long-fermented pizza dough. The American crowd-pleasers are all here, Texas Roadhouse, PF Chang’s, The Cheesecake Factory, Shake Shack, which is exactly what you want when you’re feeding kids and grandparents and nobody agrees.

The smartest choice for a group is the Yas Food Hall. Around sixteen vendors, one seating area: everyone orders what they actually want and you still eat together. Look for SLRP, the ramen bar from the team behind 3 Fils. Quick, varied, lowest-stress way to feed a mixed table.

With kids

Fun Works on Level 1 is a large indoor entertainment zone, rides, games, an indoor roller coaster. It’s a real destination, not a corner of token machines, and it will absorb a couple of hours of contained energy.

VOX Cinemas runs 20 screens including IMAX, 4DX and recliner-seat Gold, plus a kids’ cinema format built for little ones. A midday film is one of the better ways to sit out the worst of the afternoon.

The loop, in order

This is the bit worth copying:

1. Arrive late morning, before the lunch rush.
2. Fun Works or a film first, while everyone’s still fresh.
3. Eat at the Yas Food Hall.
4. Then Ferrari World through the indoor walkway, no re-entry into the heat, no getting back in the car.
5. Shop or stroll on the way out, once the sun has lost its edge.

Add the Géant hypermarket on the lower ground floor if you’re self-catering, stocking up here costs meaningfully less than buying near the attractions, and it’s on your way to the car.

Prayer rooms, family restrooms and stroller access are all straightforward; the directory boards will point you.

Is it a good hot-day plan with a toddler?

Honestly, yes, and better than most alternatives on the island. Covered parking, a food hall you don’t have to queue in, Fun Works, and a cinema, all within one air-conditioned building. It’s the lowest-friction few hours you’ll get with small children in July or August.
