Leaving an Abu Dhabi hospital but not flying home yet? Book a furnished home about 20–25 minutes from the hospital, by the week rather than by the night. The things that actually matter: step-free access, a kitchen, laundry, and dates you can change.
Almost nobody plans for this bit. The ward is behind you, the flight is ahead, and there’s a stretch in the middle that turns out to be longer than anyone said.
Book for longer than you think you need
The pattern we see, over and over, in the families who stay with us: they book four nights, and they stay eleven.
There’s a follow-up appointment that lands the following week. A scan that gets rescheduled. A flight that’s easier to move than to make. None of it is dramatic, it’s just how these trips go, and a hotel booked by the night is the most expensive possible way to find out.
Your doctor and your airline decide when you fly. We just make the waiting comfortable.
Four things that decide whether a place works
- Step-free, car to bed. Not just “there’s a lift.” Ask about the actual path from the car, kerbs, thresholds, how far the walk is.
- A kitchen. Whatever your diet needs to be right now, you control it. Two weeks of restaurant food fights that.
- Laundry in the home. Not a per-item hotel service with a two-day turnaround.
- Dates you can move. Both directions. Book somewhere that flexes on a phone call.
When a hotel is the better call, honestly
If you’re staying two or three nights, a hotel across the road from the hospital is simpler, and you should just book it. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s hospitality team keeps a list of nearby hotels with patient rates, use it.
A home starts making sense once you’re looking at a week or more.

It’s about 20–25 minutes of clear highway to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and a similar run to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. For the day you finally get to go, Zayed International Airport is the closest airport to us.
Tell us the awkward logistics before you book, no stairs from the car, somewhere to keep medication cold, a nurse visiting. We’ll tell you honestly whether the home fits, rather than sell you one that doesn’t.

Questions we get asked
How long should I book for? Longer than the plan. Most people extend at least once, book weekly and tell us when you know more.
Can the home be step-free? Tell us your access needs first and we’ll be straight with you about which home works.
What if I’m cleared early, or need longer? Both happen constantly. Just message us, and we move the dates.
The place you wait is one of the few parts of this you actually control. And if a hotel is genuinely right for your first few days, we’ll say so.
